Cuttlefish bone casting is an ancient technique that involves pouring molten metal directly into the carved bone. Sand casting is also very historic: it is the process of pouring metal into a carved cavity of sand. Contemporary sand molds are made from a very fine jeweler's sand which takes detail well, but like cuttlefish bone, the sand molds can withstand the temperature for one casting only. The unique quality of each casting is what makes these gravity process so inspiring - the carving or impression has one chance to become immortal.
