Make a sterling silver ring in this three-hour workshop! We will focus on two-part methods for the ancient metal casting method known as cuttlefish casting. Cuttlefish bone is desirable for making jewelry because it is easy to access and use, and because it leaves a distinct woodgrain-like pattern in the cast pieces.
In this class, we will learn and discuss techniques and strategies for carving and casting into the cuttlefish bone, specifically by melting and pouring metal to create a pewter object and a sterling silver ring. Some finishing and polishing techniques will be covered.
